Xiaomi Mi Band 2 smart fitness tracker with optical heart rate monitor and 0.42-inch OLED display

The Xiaomi Mi Band 2 combines continuous heart rate monitoring with smartphone notification capabilities in a lightweight fitness band designed for daily wear and exercise tracking. Its optical heart rate sensor eliminates the need for chest strap monitors while providing real-time pulse data during workouts and throughout the day. With Bluetooth 4.0 BLE connectivity, this band syncs with Android smartphones running version 4.4 or higher to display messages and alerts on the integrated 0.42-inch OLED touch display. The 20-day battery life from the 70mAh capacity ensures extended use between charges, while the IP67 waterproof rating protects against sweat and rain during active use.

Features and Construction

The Mi Band 2 integrates multiple sensor technologies within its compact aluminium and plastic housing, creating a versatile fitness tracking device suitable for various activities and daily monitoring requirements.

Material and Build

Constructed with a plastic housing reinforced by an aluminium body frame, the Mi Band 2 maintains a lightweight profile of just 7g while providing structural integrity for daily wear. The thermoplastic elastomer wrist strap material offers flexibility and resistance to sweat and moisture, complementing the device's IP67 waterproof rating. This material combination creates a durable fitness band that withstands exercise conditions while remaining comfortable for continuous heart rate monitoring throughout waking hours.

Size and Practical Fit

With a total wrist strap length of 235mm and adjustable range from 155mm to 210mm, the Mi Band 2 accommodates various wrist sizes for secure wear during physical activity. The adjustable mechanism ensures proper sensor contact with the skin for accurate optical heart rate readings, while preventing slippage that could affect pedometer data collection. This size adaptability makes the fitness tracker suitable for different users without requiring multiple band sizes or specialised fitting accessories.

Uses and Placement

The Mi Band 2 serves multiple functions from fitness tracking to smartphone integration, positioning it as both an exercise companion and daily wearable notification device for Android users.

Event or Professional Use

During exercise sessions and training events, the optical heart rate monitor provides continuous pulse data without requiring chest strap contact, allowing athletes to monitor intensity levels throughout workouts. The integrated pedometer automatically records step counts during walking, running and daily movement, while the IP67 waterproof rating ensures functionality during sweaty conditions or outdoor activities exposed to rain. Professional applications include fitness tracking for personal trainers and health monitoring for individuals following exercise programmes that require heart rate zone training.

Everyday Home Use

For daily wear, the Mi Band 2 displays smartphone notifications including messages and alerts on its OLED screen, reducing the need to frequently check connected Android devices. The 20-day battery life supports extended use between charges, making it suitable for continuous wear without daily charging routines. Sleep tracking capabilities monitor rest patterns when worn overnight, while the lightweight 7g construction and adjustable strap ensure comfort during extended periods of use both day and night.

Benefits and Buying Value

The Mi Band 2 offers practical advantages through its sensor integration, connectivity features and durable construction, providing value through multiple functionalities in a single wearable device.

Reuse and Low Maintenance

With its thermoplastic elastomer wrist strap material and aluminium construction, the Mi Band 2 maintains durability through repeated daily wear and exercise sessions. The IP67 waterproof rating protects internal components against moisture damage, extending usable lifespan during activities involving sweat or exposure to rain. Standard 5V charging via the included charger simplifies power replenishment without requiring specialised cables or accessories, supporting continued use throughout ownership.
